Orange Peel

Oct 31, 2025 | Paint Defects and Solutions

Problem Description:

Orange peel is a textured, uneven surface resembling the skin of an orange, resulting in an aesthetically undesirable finish.

Possible Causes:

Excessively Thick Paint Application: Applying paint too thickly or with high viscosity prevents smooth flow, causing texture.
Improper Application Technique: Excessive pressure or incorrect brush/roller use hinders proper leveling.
Rapid Drying: Paint drying too quickly before it can flow out results in orange peel.
High Humidity or Temperature: Environmental conditions can impede proper paint flow.

Solutions and Precautions:

Control Viscosity: Adjust paint flow properties to avoid overly thick application.
Use Slow-Drying Paints: Select paints with controlled drying rates.
Improve Application Technique: Apply paint evenly with proper pressure; spray at a 45° angle for best results.
Regulate Environmental Conditions: Maintain recommended temperature (20°C) and humidity (45–60%).

Orange peel can be avoided by proper technique and careful material selection, resulting in a smooth, attractive finish.
